Ashford Mother Successfully Defends Daughter from Raccoon Attack

An animal control officer in Ashford, CT, reported that a raccoon bit a child. The incident occurred on Fitts Road, and state police were called to assist. Surveillance footage captured the attack. The video shows a girl being attacked by the raccoon, and her family provided the footage to Channel 3. The incident took place around 7:55 a.m. on Friday. The 5-year-old girl, Rylee MacNamara, stated that the raccoon wrapped its arms around her leg and didn't want to let go. Her mother, Logan, managed to remove the raccoon, but both mother and daughter suffered bite marks and scratches. Logan called for help, believing the raccoon was rabid, and the animal ran into the woods after being thrown off. The MacNamara family went to the hospital for rabies shots and returned home a few hours later. Jessica Gessay, a neighbor, expressed her concern about wild animals in the area, and Dave Frank added that it was disturbing to have a raccoon so close to their homes. Animal control searched for the raccoon in the woods but couldn't find it. The MacNamara family may set traps around their house as a precaution. Rylee and Logan will continue to visit the hospital for shots over the next two weeks. They also mentioned that their children won't be allowed outside alone anytime soon.
