The Village Board in Lake George is set to announce a moratorium on new commercial property water hookups outside of the village. This is to facilitate a 10- to 12-week water study. The board will vote on the resolution at its December meeting, with the proposed moratorium lasting for six months.
The village has hired C.T. Male Engineering to conduct a study of its water system. The study aims to evaluate options for meeting the growing needs of the area.
The decision to conduct the study was influenced by Richard Schermerhorn's plans to develop housing on the former site of Water Slide World, according to Lake George Town Supervisor Dennis Dickinson. He explained that the village has enough water to meet the needs of large water usage projects, but wants to ensure that it can achieve the required volume.

Both the town and village of Lake George operate water filtration plants. The town's facility in Diamond Point serves fewer than 100 residents with a well water system. On the other hand, the village's plant serves over 1,800 residents in the village and town, encompassing more than 1,400 water service connections.
The village currently obtains its water directly from Lake George through a pump station on Beach Road. This water is then processed at a modern filtration station on Ottawa Street and distributed throughout the system.
The village provides water service to areas north of Hearthstone Park on Route 9N, south to Route 9L, and the east side of the lake.
In addition to Richard Schermerhorn's housing development plans for the former Water Slide World site, the decision to conduct the water study also takes into account other recent developments in the area, such as the conversion of the old Ramada Inn into residences and multiple condo developments on Route 9L and Bloody Pond Road.
