One year later, emotions are still running high for the Milwaukee Dancing Grannies. In November 2021, their community suffered a devastating loss when a man drove through the Waukesha Christmas Parade, killing six people and injuring nearly 70 others. The upcoming parade serves as a painful reminder of that tragic day. Jean Knutson, co-leader of the Milwaukee Dancing Grannies, expressed the bittersweet feeling of returning to Waukesha, where their fallen members took their last steps. To honor the memory of the four members they lost, the group plans to carry poster-size pictures of them during the parade. Additionally, some family members will be joining them in this tribute. The Grannies also want to express their gratitude to the community for their unwavering love and support. They intend to distribute gift bags containing ‘Granny Strong' and ‘Waukesha Strong' bracelets as a token of appreciation. Knutson acknowledges that it is the collective love and support from the surrounding communities that empowers them to continue moving forward despite their grief. This group of individuals, bound together by tragedy, is determined to heal and create new memories, while never forgetting the ones they have lost.
